Paper-making process on a paper machine

Paper machine is divided into:

• the constant and
• the variable part.

Constant part:

• storing of pulp
• kneading-homogenization
• diluting and cleaning
• sorting

Variable part:

• inflow/distribution of the paper mass in vertical and horizontal plane or paper sheet formation
• draining
• drying
• crinkling (making of crepe paper)
• rewinding
• calendering and cutting
• transfer of paper to the warehouse

After passing through the constant part of the PM, the pulp is pumped into the headbox. From here the material is led onto a screen for draining and onward to felt section with two presses where water is removed mechanically. In a drying cylinder the remaning water is removed. Dry infinite paper sheet is then wound into reels. When reels are rewinded and cut they are ready to enter the process of manufacturing of end products or to be transported to the storehouse.

Crepe paper or crinkled paper is made by "scraping" of the dry paper sheet off the drying cylinder which gives the crepe paper its typical elastic properties.
